Godfather Politics: “Liberals Use Christian Lackey Jim Wallis to Support Obama-Style Socialism”

By Gary DeMar

Jim Wallis is being called on by liberals to make the case for biblical socialism. Liberals despise or reimage the Bible’s views on abortion and homosexuality, but they search high and (mostly) low for anyone who will claim that the Bible supports wealth redistribution.

Wallis plans to “give out copies of The Poverty and Justice Bible, which has all 2,000 verses about the poor highlighted in orange, to each Member of Congress and their staff during the shutdown. We want the politicians who assault each other and the nation with their words every day to hear what we Christians call the Word of God,” Wallis says, “just across the street from their verbal battles.”

Neither the Old Testament not the New Testament supports what Wallis is selling at a salary of $197,000 per year: “You shall do no injustice in judgment; you shall not be partial to the poor nor defer to the great, but you are to judge your neighbor fairly´ (Lev. 19:15).

It’s no different in the New Testament as Dr. Gary North points out:

“The Social Gospel defends this system of compulsory wealth-redistribution in the name of Jesus. It teaches that Jesus implicitly favored economic aid to the poor in the form of government policies that can be enforced only by the threat of systematic violence.

“No New Testament account of Jesus offers evidence that He recommended such a view of Christian civil government.”

Not one of the 2000 verses Wallis highlights supports socialism or wealth redistribution.
